Warning! Fatal Arthritis Pill!

Hey!

The other day I announced that I was bringing back the Book of Questions series in which I answer questions from the 1987 and 2013 Book of Questions by Gregory Stock PH.D! In this post I’m going to be answering question 5 from the 1987 Book of Questions by Gregory Stock PH.D!

If a new medicine were developed that would cure arthritis but cause a fatal reaction in 1 percent of those who took it, would you want it to be released to the public?

Yes.

There are currently around 10 million people in the UK alone with arthritis which means this medicine would kill 100,000 people. That would mean that 9.9 million people would be free of the pain of arthritis.

I realise that 100,000 is a LOT of people but in comparison to 10 million it’s not really. It’s a sacrifice that would mean that a lot more people would live pain free.

Quite a few of my relatives have arthritis and I would be devastated if the drug killed them, but I definitely think that if you look at the bigger picture and the amount of people that would be helped it makes sense to release a drug like this.
