Janie’s Got A Fund!

Today I wanted to talk about something a little different, I want to talk about Janie’s Fund.

Janie’s fund is a new philanthropic initiative set up by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and created in partnership with Youth Villages one of America’s most successful non-profit organisations.

Janie’s fund has been set up to celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the classic Aerosmith song Janie’s Got A Gun and the initiative will, along with the help of Youth Villages help children and young adults that have been the victim of sexual abuse.

It’s such an important cause because if they can get the right help and can be shown that there is a light at the end of the tunnel then maybe what they experienced in their childhood won’t ruin the rest of their lives like it has for so many other people.

If you’re not familiar with the song Janie’s Got A Gun then here is the song and music video from the official Aerosmith Vevo page.

The song was written about a victim of sexual abuse getting revenge on her father who abused her, as far as I know Janie is a fictional character but the song was inspired by the fact that Steven Tyler was outraged at the fact that nobody payed homage to the people who were abused by ‘Mom & Dad’. This is one of the only Aerosmith songs that I can think of that actually addresses real issues.

Don’t get me wrong, Love In An Elevator can be a real issue too but you know what I mean!

I think that it’s amazing that Steven Tyler has now finally gone on to set up an organisation that can help look after victims like Janie.

Steven Tyler said that over the years he has received thousands of letters from people who related to the song and that is a huge part of the motivation behind the organisation.

Aerosmith are one of my all-time favourite bands, Steven Tyler is one of my favourite people and I’m so glad that he’s set this initiative up and is working alongside Youth Villages!

If you’d like to become a founding member of Janie’s fund and get your hands on some exclusive merch at the same time or if you’d just like to find out more about the initiative then head on over to the Janie’s Fund website – JaniesFund.org.

Janie’s Fund is based in the US and only helps US victims if you’re in the UK and you need help then you should contact the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) – NSPCC.org.uk or NAPAC (National Association for People Abused in Childhood) – NAPAC.org.uk.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post, I appreciate it was a little bit different to what I normally post but I’m a music blogger and this is a musician doing some great work for a great cause and I wanted to support that. It’s an added bonus that they just so happen to be my favourite member of my favourite band!
