On December 5th my Grandad is turning 80 and I’m hoping that some of you fellow carers / people who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s can give me some ideas on how to make his birthday extra special for him!
He’s stage 6 now and really doesn’t know us at all anymore, he sleeps most of the time now too but I still want to do something special to mark his 80th Birthday.
Obviously we’ll have cake and a small party in his room consisting of my Grandmother, My Dad and I and make a fuss that way but what can I do to make it special for Grandad in a way that he’ll know / feel?
I’m hoping that some of you will have had similar experiences and may be able to offer some ideas.
I always play music for him every time I see him and I still talk to him like I would if he didn’t have Alzheimer’s, he still gets lots of hugs and affection but I want to do something special for him because he’s 80 and for my Grandmother’s 80th earlier this year I threw a party for her. It wouldn’t feel right not doing something for my Grandad too.
Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter @MissCharlotteEm if you have any ideas or if you’ve done anything special to mark a person with Alzheimer’s special birthday!
Thanks in advance to those who help!
